It's that time of year! We put together 6 tutorials for you this year, and we had some very specific criteria. Every costume had to be easy. Like super easy. Easy enough to accomplish in an hours or so with minimal supplies. Plus, every costume needed to cost $25 or less (assuming that you use mostly clothing from your closet!). So here you have them! Our best Halloween costumes for houseplant lovers! Enjoy!
Watermelon Peperomia (Peperomia argyreia)
Green Fabric Paint (choose a tone that contrasts with your shirt)
Stippling Paint Brush
Oversize Green T-shirt
Maroon Leggings (these ones from Forever21 are perfect)
Step One: This costume probably requires the most skill of all our tutorials, but it's still not super intense. The goal is to paint a leaf shape that approximates the look of a Watermelon Peperomia (see image). It took us 2-3 layers to get the color right, and it's more of a "patting" stroke than a brush stroke when you use a stippling brush!
You could definitely use a pale green or silvery paint against a darker green shirt, but the darker green paint against the lighter green shirt worked best for us. The maroon leggings are a key part since they're the color of the stems on a Watermelon Peperomia. We purchased ours at Forever21, but you can find similar ones on Amazon.
